Inaugural Grow Wild Spring Fling held in Bel Air on Saturday, May 4

May 9, 2024

HLT held its inaugural Grow Wild Spring Fling on Saturday, May 4th in Bel Air from 10am-2pm at the intersection of Bond Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The Spring Fling celebrated native plants and pollinators with something for everyone to enjoy.

Attendees were encouraged to start filling their outside areas with native plants to create pollinator friendly spaces. HLT gave away 10 lbs of wildflower seeds, 400 tree seedlings courtesy of the Harford County Forestry Board, and 1,000 native plant seedlings, and other related giveaways. Various local nurseries, vendors, and community partners were present.  Guests learned from professional growers, ecologists, and Master Gardeners at interactive stations. Kids had their own “sprouts” area with crafts and educational displays.

HLT’s Grow Wild program provides tools and resources for landowners, especially in urban and suburban residential communities of Harford County, to convert at least a portion of their yards to more natural space. The program aims to create the conditions for nature to thrive, reestablish natural processes to repair ecosystems, and boost biodiversity.

“Converting even a small part of your yard to native pollinator plants helps reduce runoff and improve our environment. My administration is proud to support Grow Wild and I encourage Harford County residents to learn more about this exciting new program.”

County Executive Bob Cassilly
